“Find a Job You Love and You’ll Never Work a Day in Your Life” Such a fabulous saying and so true. As great as the quote from Confucius is, what happens though, is that doing what you love, is the dream of many, but the reality of few.
With absolute passion with life and working as a Talent Specialist I have managed to create that elusive work/life balance and dream job that people often are searching for, don’t get me wrong I still work incredibly hard in a very demanding industry, I get to do it my way though, that’s all. I also believe that there is always a fabulous story about every single one of us whether good or bad. The best thing is we can learn from our mistakes and choose what NOT to do next time. We can have that dream job or opportunity, you just have to go out and find it.
After only 3 years in the Recruitment Industry Industry, starting my career in 2002 I took the bold step and ventured out on mine and started my own recruitment company, yes this has had it challenges however there have been more rewards along the way as well, mostly in the form of awesome happy candidates getting the dream position.
Every single day I learn something new and I really love what I do with a passion. I hear you ask why do I do what I do? My role as a Talent Specialist is get to locate job opportunities for top profiled candidates in Property Management, I get to locate them THE job not just any job, I get to speak to employers in the Real Estate industry that are searching for THE candidate and my role is get to assist them in finding the RIGHT person for them.
In the beginning I was told as a recruiter in a NZ National Company that I cannot recruit in the Real Estate Industry that was the day I knew I had to do it myself. I went with the Richard Branson theory – “screw it just do it”.
In 2009 I sold a successful recruitment company in NZ, this wasn’t the easiest process we got through a hurdle I wouldn’t wish upon any business. What I can say is the entire experience made me a stronger and more determined person to not let a setback get in the way of my success.
Our arrival in Australia in 2009, we started REJS with a clean database and loaded our first Real Estate office to the now ongoing growing database and have never looked back. Now a well-recognised National company in Australia leading the way in the Real Estate Industry sourcing Top Property Managers and now in our 6th Year in Australia continuing to do what we set off to do and love it.
Those who know me well know that I ooze energy from 5 am to 9 pm, non-stop go getter, yes I crash at the end of the day and I’m always grateful for an amazing day after I have had the chance to talk to fabulous people and the opportunity to change their lives. I’m known for those early morning quotes, perhaps a text message to help motivate some and keep that high energy to many social media groups.
Making a job offer is not about the money it’s the absolute buzz when I get to call the candidate to advise they have been successful and right now I have the job offer for them. LOVE IT – truly why wouldn’t I.
As you can see I love my job and I speak that lingo every day, I tell myself every day what I’m grateful and love to help others direct their Property Management career path in every way I can. This is the reason I love what I do with absolute passion.
OK now it’s time for you to take some action
Once you have worked through what you want to do, the next step is to research yourself the dream job. What companies do you target, where are the jobs located, do you need any qualifications, who can you contact that is already doing this? Would you start up your very own business. Research this too. Speak to your friends and family, professional contacts, work your way through LinkedIn and all Social Media and the web for those clues. The more research you do, the more excited you will get.
This is a must do – set yourself some clear objectives and timelines and make sure you take action every single day to hit towards your ultimate goal. Get yourself an A4 pad or notes app and fill it with all your goals and achievements. Run it like a To Do list. Once you start trust me you will continue to stay excited. Another saying I often focused on – ink it think it. You will come up with those obstacles such as family situation or your finances; as a rule however, there is always a solution that can be worked out over time, every time. Thanks to my favourite all time business entrepreneur Richard Branson – “scew it just do it.”
