If you have recently applied for a number of jobs through online job boards and are still waiting to receive any kind of acknowledgement, other than the generic ‘we have received your resume’ response, then take heart in knowing you are not alone.
It’s a frustrating fact that a lot of recruiters use job boards for all the wrong reasons. The truth is that they are often used to advertise generic or potentially non-existent jobs to fill a candidate database, and the reality is that a large percentage of candidates never hear anything back from their applications.
It really blows my mind why so many recruiters continue to practice this unethical approach. Why advertise a role on a job board, but then show no candidate care? And why generate bad publicity for yourself and your company by repeatedly doing this?
As far as I’m concerned this practice is not only bad form on behalf of the recruiters and their brand, but it also leaves a bad taste in the mouth of candidates who end up feeling disheartened and disillusioned by the whole experience.
In fact, if I had a dollar for every time that a candidate had vented their frustrations to me at how they had been treated by recruiters, then I could potentially retire tomorrow. But, of course, I wouldn’t because I treasure what I do and pride myself on the fact that our company, REJS, like other industry specialists, works differently.
And this is why I encourage you to build a relationship with one today, and stop clicking your way through all those repetitive job boards.
As a valued candidate with an industry specialist you won’t be treated like a number, but rather like the human being that you are. Your career needs and wants will be acknowledged, and you will be treated with the same high level of care and attention that is dedicated to clients.
Not only that, but signing up with an ethical and professional industry specialist will mean that you become an extension of their team. You can be rest assured that they will be working with you all the way to find the right job in the right company, and they won’t forget about you the minute you have walked out the door.
But the benefits don’t just stop there, because the best is yet to come.
In building a strong relationship based on mutual trust and respect, not only will you be the first to know about your perfect job opportunity but – and this is where it gets really exciting – it won’t be through a job board!!
That’s right – you did hear it correct! Because experienced and dedicated industry specialists receive jobs from referrals or existing relationships with clients. They don’t use job boards because, quite simply, they don’t NEED to.
So, if you are sick of dealing with generic responses, wasting time trawling job boards and travelling down roads that lead to nowhere but a dead end, investigate developing a solid relationship with an industry specialist instead.
After all, time invested now is time saved later on and, quite honestly, the experience of finding your perfect role should be exhilarating, not exhausting.
